Welcome to Harborne Hill Allotments, a friendly and thriving community in the heart of Edgbaston!
Nestled between Nursery, Yateley, Harborne, and Kingscote Roads, with the Chad Brook gently flowing through the middle, our allotment site is home to nearly 100 passionate gardeners, all working together to cultivate a beautiful, welcoming community.
The site is leased from the Calthorpe Estate by Birmingham City Council, and our main entrance is conveniently located on Nursery Road, right opposite Chad Valley School. Over the years, the interest in allotments has had its ups and downs, with a particularly strong surge during and after the two World Wars. In fact, there’s an aerial photo from the 1970s showing our allotments in their prime, immaculate plots, neat rows of vegetables, and hardly a weed in sight! While there was a time when the site saw some decline, we’re proud to say that it’s back on track and flourishing once again.
Today, our allotments are thriving, with a wonderful mix of young and mature tenants from all over the world. The Harborne Hill Allotment Association plays a key role in managing the site, with an elected committee that works closely with Birmingham City Council. We’ve taken on more responsibility in recent years, ensuring that our allotments are not only well-maintained but self-sustaining.
We hold regular committee meetings and our Annual General Meeting keeps everyone involved and informed. So whether you’re an experienced grower or a newcomer looking to get your hands dirty, there’s always a place for you.
Come and join the growing family at Harborne Hill Allotments!
